When we have the courage to go toe-to-toe with our darkness, a greater light is shone through our eyes.

I’ve noticed an alignment of events that are occurring both in my personal life and in the collective as well.

Personally, I have been dealing with family emotional challenges that stem from childhood experiences that I had ignored for years only for it to come to the surface this year and I am confronted with making my peace with it and healing old wounds.

Collectively, the death of Kobe Bryant is a shock to everyone. There’s not many people in the world who does not know of this man, his achievements, and his level of integrity as a role model of what grit and determination espouses.

Death is not something that can be ignored because all of us must come to terms with it at some point in our existence. It is also an unknown, because what do we know happens after it?

But one thing I do know about life is that the unknown, whilst it is scary, and painful, uncomfortable, hurtful, reveals to us a gift when we have the perseverance to strive through it with that grit and determination to trust in something that we can’t see. No matter how bleak the circumstances may be.

Darkness, the unknown, what we are afraid of, pain, suffering, discomfort, are all expressions of the same thing. It is when we have the courage to go toe-to-toe with it that a greater light is shone through our eyes. The darkness turns into greater light. The fear into a deeper love. Pain and suffering into resilience and strength. Discomfort into pleasure.

So if you, like me, are going through a hard time in your life at this moment, have faith you are not alone. Together we can overcome anything. Together we can overcome the world.

“The wise, meditating on the Self, recognize God who is hidden within the darkness. Joy and sorrow are left far behind.”
Lord Krishna, The Upanishads
