Fear can be paralysing. It can stop one’s actions and thought processes in the moment.
One day I was walking with my grandfather on a hot summer afternoon in Melbourne. I was 10 years old. And in the middle of the road slithered a brown snake. My grandfather gently held me back and told me to stay quiet.
In my body I felt fear. And curiousity. Fear because of what preconceived ideas I had about snakes had scared me to thinking that they would attack me if they saw me. And curiousity because snakes were a myth to me until I saw it with my very eyes.
Fear can be paralysing. It can stop one’s actions and thought processes in the moment.
If that one moment is strung together into sequential moments that have given rise to your life to date, how has fear played a role in your life to achieving the greatness that you are intrinsically capable of?
My antidote to fear is Courage. Willpower. Strength. Being calm and peaceful in anxious moments. And yes curiousity as well. With these new perspectives, fear becomes a tool and an asset to one’s psyche. It becomes a gift because it reveals itself to be so.
Take this post as an opportunity to self-reflect.
What fears are you holding onto today? What can you do in this moment to release them, accept them, and make positive forward moving actions that you know will transform the trajectory of your life?
As we stood at the intersection of the road, the snake that I feared and knew little about momentarily gazed at us. It then turned around and returned back for some shade.
“See the Essence behind the essence, and you will become free of fear and evil. Then you will be at peace with yourself.”
Lao Tzu, The Tao Te Ching
