“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.” – Rumi

In the beginning, there was light. This is a common phrase that can be found in the bible or referred to in the big bang theory. I’ve always asked myself whether this was true. And last year in September, scientists actually did prove that there was more to this theory than we previously imagined. Scientists discovered the source of light that originated 1.2 billion years ago, was caused by the collision of two black holes. This collision had generated so much energy, that it released light, which ultimately led to the creation of all that we see in existence today.

But what gave rise to this collision? What energies existed in these black holes that allowed them to head towards each other to create our universe as it is today? Sufi mystic and poet, Rumi is well known for his work, one of which is a quote that I think is very powerful: “You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”

All creation, all things that we can physically see and touch and feel, are all made up of the same matter. In a scientific sense, to break down this matter to a molecular form, we would realise that all of us are created from stardust. It only takes a startling realisation to discover that we are actually the universe ourselves.

The circling of two black holes ultimately colliding, has been romanticised by scientists as a dance of two polarities. The black holes would circle each other for aeons, until in one moment, they would merge together to form a new creation. Is this no different to the courtship between a male and female? The masculine and feminine? The tale of two lovers? And what of the creation that takes form when masculine and feminine energies merge? In humans, we create a newborn. Another physical body, embodying the universe that was born from an act of love.

And it is here that I make this statement. Love is the basis of all existence. Even the stars we see in the night sky, was born out of love. This love can’t be simply described in one word. The love that I’m talking about goes beyond human comprehension. It’s a feeling of innate peace, happiness, joy, and ecstasy all culminating in what can be described as heaven. It too, is an energy. We have so many forms of energy, each that can only be transferred from one form to another. We have kinetic energy, potential energy, chemical energy, thermal energy, mechanical energy, electrical energy and more forms both discovered and undiscovered. Of all forms of energy that can be described, the ultimate form of energy that gave rise to all these energies, is the universe itself. This universe is love.

Many masters that are now referred through the creations of religions and spiritual ideologies, came here with knowledge that would help humanity discover how to harness the universe within themselves. Yet in time, these examples have been forgotten and drifted away from our own perceptions of reality. They spoke of a truth that resided within each individual. A key of love and inner peace that would unlock the door to the realisation of a greater experienced reality of existence.

If you are the universe, then all that is required is to live your life in peace and love. The love of the universe will flow through you as the creator of all things that created what is inside of you.
